NexusMods, Accessibility, and the Future of My Releases

Some of you may have already noticed that my mods did not get a release anymore. This is not because I gave up on it. It isn't just a delay, it's a crossroads. One I have been avoiding for way too long. But I feel like I owe you all an explanation of the reason for that.

As many of you know, I publish my free mods on NexusMods after they leave the early access phase, but NexusMods recently updated their upload form with a new UI. Please forgive me for feeling uncomfortable sharing any personal conditions, but the new UI does render the Upload form useless for me, because using it causes physical discomfort and even pain.

I pointed out that issue to them multiple times, as did others, but have received no response or resolution.

Of course, there is still the legacy feature that I would be able to use, but that is only temporary, and honestly, I am not enabling NexusMods for their neglect of basic usability standards.

This is not easy for me. I make niche mods, and Nexusmods was the primary platform giving my mods visibility for years.

We, the community, the modders, built up that platform into what it is today. But now NexusMods is making decisions that leave people with conditions like mine behind, without a warning, without a fix, without even an acknowledgement.

All I ever wanted was to make mods, share what I created, and see the joy they bring to others. But now I am forced into a choice: To continue supporting a platform that does not support me, which causes me physical discomfort and even pain, just to maintain visibility of my work?

And there is only one obvious answer to this: No.

I'm not giving up on free releases, but I can not use NexusMods new upload form, and I will not use the legacy form, because that would be me accepting their neglect of accessibility. (and the legacy upload form is already gone anyway)

So what's going to happen next?

Releases on Nexus will not be made anymore, no updates, or anything that would require me to use the new form.

I've been working on my blog to improve the UI Navigation, which did not age well, but I've always seen my blog as a hub, and not as a publishing platform. A place to point at if someone is interested in my mods. A place where even my early work can still be found.

In the meantime, I am exploring alternative platforms where I am able to host my mods for free in future. I am not getting younger, so I make this decision more carefully these days than I did 15 years ago.

I am sorry, this means that releases get delayed, but I hope you understand that this is not a choice I make lightly. It is a choice I am being forced into by a platform that I feel like no longer respects its creators.

I'll keep you updated as things develop, and thank you for understanding and for your continuing support over all those years.

Update:

I decided to give GGmods for hosting. Links will be added to my blog posts as usual, first mod there is Vokun's Staff. And Version 2.0 for the Amulet of Dibella is now over there as well. In the future, you shall find the links on my blog pages, as usual. (and I will inform if Nexusmods files are outdated in the blog posts as well, but will keep the links anway.)

Cheers. Ave.
