Otar's Staff by Ave

  • TES V: Skyrim
This mod does give the Dragonpriest Otar his own unique staff. In vanilla Skyrim, he does have the generic 'Wall of Storm' staff, which you are able to find around every other corner. This mod changes this.
As you would expect from me, the staff is highly animated.
In order to stay true to the other unique Dragonpriest Staves, the enchantment value is increased. The enchantment itself stays the same; however, I made craftable options so the staff can be enchanted in several ways:
  • Wall of Storm (as the staff is found)
  • Chain Lightning
  • Thunderbolt
To update the staff with a new enchantment, you need to know the spell and enchant it at a staff enchanter.

In addition to that, if you equip the staff, the 'Otar's Madness' ability is added to you. It gives you:

Your elemental destruction spells do 5% more damage if your magicka is below 50%

The inscription is a poem in Dovazhul:

I called the storm and shaped the wall,
the crawling thunder heeds my call.
The dragons watched from blazing height,
and crowned my face in searing light.

Green malachite upon my face,
the dragon’s mark, the sign of grace.
Their breath like fire within me poured,
and made of priest a living lord.

The wind laughs loud within my skull,
its roaring praise both fierce and full.
It tells me secrets none may hear,
of trembling realms that bow in fear.

My thralls kneel deep in ash and hall,
their endless chants rise to the wall.
They feed the storm with prayer and breath,
and name me master over death.

Let rebels whisper in the wall,
my lightning hears and ends them all.
The blackened clouds obey my hand,
and thunder breaks at my command.

No rival hand shall break my reign,
no mortal will withstand the rain.
For while the thunder splits the sky,
Otar shall rule and never die.

Not that I am aware of any, but I explain the functionality here anyway:

To change the staff, Otar's inventory needs to be changed, which would make the mod incompatible with every other mod that edits Otar in any way. To avoid this, a small script will run once the mod is installed; you will get a notification once it is complete. After that, it will not run again. The script does remove the vanilla staff he usually has in his inventory and adds the new staff I made. If any other mod adds anything else to the inventory, it will stay.
I hope this is enough to make it compatible with anything, even remotely incompatible, while keeping it as lightweight as possible. But it could lead to Otar having two or more weapons if another mod does give him weapons.

  • run fomod installer
  • activate the esp files as usual
